Kayak Carts was founded in 2011 by Mike Smith, a passionate kayaker and outdoor enthusiast. While hauling his 12-foot kayak back from remote launches, John grew frustrated with having to awkwardly carry the heavy vessel long distances to his car. He knew there had to be a better solution.
After doing some research online, Mike discovered kayak carts - wheeled devices designed to transport kayaks short or long distances with ease. He purchased one and was amazed that these ingenious contraptions were not more readily available.
John then had an idea to start a business selling top-quality kayak carts directly to fellow paddlers. He knew that transporting kayaks was a common pain point, but surprisingly few specialty retailers existed catering specifically to kayak transport solutions.
